There are 4 rooms at KPS Residency, with capacity for 8 guests in total. The property has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. All rooms are air-conditioned, which matters most in April and May when the islands get genuinely hot; from December to February the sea breeze does much of the work on its own.

Meals and what is included

Meals are part of the rate here. That is standard on the islands, where restaurants are scarce and you eat where you stay. All three meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — are included in the rate. Meals lean on tuna, coconut and rice, and the fish is genuinely fresh. Let us know in advance about vegetarian, vegan or allergy requirements, since everything beyond fish and coconut has to come in by boat.

Where it is

KPS Residency is at Keelapura, Near Hujrai Mosque, Agatti. Agatti is where most Lakshadweep trips begin. It holds the archipelago’s only airport, so it is the one island you can fly to directly, and it has the widest choice of places to stay.

The lagoon runs along the western side of the island and is shallow enough to wade far out in calm weather. Snorkelling straight from the beach is possible in several places, and boat trips to Bangaram and Thinnakara are arranged locally — though every island you visit must be named on your entry permit.

Getting to KPS Residency

Reaching Agatti means a direct flight from Kochi, Goa or Bangalore, or a passenger ship from Kochi. Road transfers on the island are short, since Agatti is barely six kilometres end to end.

You will need an entry permit before you travel, and so will every member of your party regardless of age. The requirements are now minimal: an ID card and a photograph for each passenger, with no police clearance, no sponsor and no tickets needed at application stage. If you book a package with us, the permit is arranged for you.

Who this suits

At ₹4,000 a night this is one of the more affordable stays on Agatti, and it suits travellers who would rather spend their budget on getting to Lakshadweep than on the room. Children are well catered for, and the shallow lagoons make Lakshadweep an unusually easy destination for young families.

• Alcohol is prohibited on the inhabited islands of Lakshadweep.
• Pack reef-safe sunscreen — standard formulations bleach coral, and the reef is the reason to come.
