Agatti is about six kilometres long and barely a kilometre wide, so the practical difference between “near the airport” and the far end of the island is a transfer of a few minutes either way. Does it matter where you stay on Agatti?
Less than you might expect. Transfers from the airstrip are short wherever you stay, and most properties arrange pickup as a matter of course. What tends to matter more is which side of the island you are on: the western lagoon is shallow, sheltered and calm, while the eastern shore faces open sea, catches the sunrise and gets more wind.
If you are choosing primarily on position relative to the water rather than the airstrip, beachside stays is the more useful list.
Getting to Agatti
Agatti Airport (AGX) takes direct flights from Kochi, Goa and Bangalore. The alternative is a passenger ship from Kochi, which takes 14 to 20 hours. Every visitor needs an entry permit, including children — the requirement is an ID card and a photograph for each passenger, and we handle the application for guests who book a package with us.
If you are staying on Bangaram or another island, you will still fly into Agatti and continue by boat, in daylight only and subject to sea conditions. Allow margin on your arrival day.
