A beachside property puts the water directly in front of you rather than a walk away. On islands this small the distance saved is trivial — nothing on Agatti is more than about twenty minutes from anything else — but the difference in how the days feel is not. You step out of your room onto the sand, you swim before breakfast, and the lagoon becomes the background to the whole stay rather than somewhere you go.

Most beachside properties in Lakshadweep are family-run and include all meals, which is standard across the islands given how few independent restaurants there are. Rates sit anywhere from modest homestay level to premium sea-facing resorts, and the premium over an inland guesthouse is usually smaller than travellers expect.

What to look for

On Agatti, consider which side of the island a property sits on. The western lagoon is shallow, sheltered and calm — good for swimming, wading and sunsets. The eastern shore faces open sea, catches the sunrise and gets more wind. Neither is better; they suit different preferences.

Check whether the property is genuinely on the sand or a short walk from it, and whether the stretch in front is swimmable at all tides. Ask about snorkelling directly from the beach, which is possible in several places on Agatti and is one of the real advantages of a beachfront stay here.

Practical notes

Sun exposure is intense on open beachfront — reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and a rash guard for snorkelling. Reef shoes are worth packing, as coral rubble is sharp underfoot. Swimwear is fine on the beach at your property, but cover up when walking through the village; these are conservative island communities.

Alcohol is prohibited on the inhabited islands. Every visitor including children needs an entry permit, which now requires only an ID card and a photograph per passenger — we handle it for guests booking a package with us.
