Rates at Four H Eastern Beach Resort include meals, which is the normal arrangement across Lakshadweep — there are very few independent restaurants, so properties cook for their guests. Where it is

Four H Eastern Beach Resort is at Agatti Island. Agatti is a narrow strip of coral land about six kilometres long, wrapped in one of the clearest lagoons in India, and it is the only island in Lakshadweep with an airstrip. The property is beachfront, so the water is directly in front of you rather than a walk away — on islands this small that is less about convenience than about how the days actually feel.

The lagoon runs along the western side of the island and is shallow enough to wade far out in calm weather. Snorkelling straight from the beach is possible in several places, and boat trips to Bangaram and Thinnakara are arranged locally — though every island you visit must be named on your entry permit.

Getting to Four H Eastern Beach Resort

Reaching Agatti means a direct flight from Kochi, Goa or Bangalore, or a passenger ship from Kochi. Road transfers on the island are short, since Agatti is barely six kilometres end to end.

An entry permit is required for everyone travelling, including infants. It is far simpler than older guides suggest — the police clearance certificate and sponsorship requirements have both been dropped, and you no longer need tickets to apply. You need only an ID card and a photograph per passenger. We take care of the permit for guests who book a package with us.

Who this suits

At ₹9,900 a night this sits in the middle of the range for Agatti — comfortable without being a resort. Children are well catered for, and the shallow lagoons make Lakshadweep an unusually easy destination for young families.

• Alcohol is prohibited on the inhabited islands of Lakshadweep.
• Dress modestly away from the beach; these are conservative island communities.
• December to March gives the most comfortable conditions; April and May bring the clearest water.
• Bring cash for the whole trip. ATM coverage is thin and not every place takes cards.
• Bring reef-safe sunscreen. Ordinary sunscreen damages the coral that makes this destination what it is.
