There are 3 rooms at The Eastern Breeze Resort, with capacity for 6 guests in total. The property has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Air conditioning is fitted throughout — welcome in the hot months either side of the monsoon, and largely optional in December and January. Hot water is available. Rooms have a television.

Meals and what is included

As at most Lakshadweep properties, meals are included. With almost no restaurants on the island, this is how eating works rather than an upsell. All three meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — are included in the rate. Expect fresh fish — tuna in particular — alongside rice, coconut and vegetables brought in by boat. If you are vegetarian, vegan or have an allergy, tell us when you book rather than on arrival, because supplies have to be planned ahead.

There is internet access, though data speeds across Lakshadweep are slow by mainland standards and BSNL has the most consistent coverage. Parking is available on the premises. The property is set up for families with children.

Where it is

The Eastern Breeze Resort is at Opp. Coral Garden, Agatti. Agatti is the gateway to Lakshadweep and the only island in the archipelago with an airstrip, which makes it the simplest island to reach and the easiest base for a first visit. The property is beachfront, so the water is directly in front of you rather than a walk away — on islands this small that is less about convenience than about how the days actually feel.

The lagoon runs along the western side of the island and is shallow enough to wade far out in calm weather. Snorkelling straight from the beach is possible in several places, and boat trips to Bangaram and Thinnakara are arranged locally — though every island you visit must be named on your entry permit.

Getting to The Eastern Breeze Resort

Agatti Airport now takes direct flights from Kochi, Goa and Bangalore, so you can reach the island without the overnight mainland stopover that used to be unavoidable. The island is small enough that the transfer from the airstrip takes only a few minutes.

You will need an entry permit before you travel, and so will every member of your party regardless of age. The requirements are now minimal: an ID card and a photograph for each passenger, with no police clearance, no sponsor and no tickets needed at application stage. If you book a package with us, the permit is arranged for you.

Who this suits

At ₹9,000 a night this sits in the middle of the range for Agatti — comfortable without being a resort. The accommodation is cottage-style rather than hotel rooms, which suits couples and families who want a little separation from other guests. The small size keeps it quiet, which suits couples and small families. Children are well catered for, and the shallow lagoons make Lakshadweep an unusually easy destination for young families.

Good to know

• Alcohol is prohibited on the inhabited islands of Lakshadweep.
• Use reef-safe sunscreen only. Oxybenzone and octinoxate harm the coral you have travelled to see.
• December to March gives the most comfortable conditions; April and May bring the clearest water.
• Carry enough cash for your stay — ATMs are limited and card acceptance is patchy.
• Away from the beach, cover shoulders and knees — you are walking through a village where people live.
