Meals and what is included

Meals are part of the rate here. That is standard on the islands, where restaurants are scarce and you eat where you stay. All three meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — are included in the rate. Meals lean on tuna, coconut and rice, and the fish is genuinely fresh. Let us know in advance about vegetarian, vegan or allergy requirements, since everything beyond fish and coconut has to come in by boat.

Where it is

Bliss Beach Resort is at Airport Road, Behind Reef Ocean School, Agatti. Agatti is where most Lakshadweep trips begin. It holds the archipelago’s only airport, so it is the one island you can fly to directly, and it has the widest choice of places to stay. The property is beachfront, so the water is directly in front of you rather than a walk away — on islands this small that is less about convenience than about how the days actually feel.

The lagoon runs along the western side of the island and is shallow enough to wade far out in calm weather. Snorkelling straight from the beach is possible in several places, and boat trips to Bangaram and Thinnakara are arranged locally — though every island you visit must be named on your entry permit.

Getting to Bliss Beach Resort

Direct flights land at Agatti from Kochi, Goa and Bangalore. Nothing on the island is far from the airstrip, so arrival is straightforward once you are down.

Every visitor to Lakshadweep needs an entry permit, children included — there is no minimum age exemption. The process is much lighter than it once was: no police clearance certificate, no sponsor, and no tickets required when you apply. An ID card and a photograph for each passenger is the whole document list. Guests booking a package with us have the permit handled as part of the booking.

Who this suits

At ₹10,400 a night this sits in the middle of the range for Agatti — comfortable without being a resort. The accommodation is cottage-style rather than hotel rooms, which suits couples and families who want a little separation from other guests. Children are well catered for, and the shallow lagoons make Lakshadweep an unusually easy destination for young families.

• Dress modestly away from the beach; these are conservative island communities.
• Use reef-safe sunscreen only. Oxybenzone and octinoxate harm the coral you have travelled to see.
