Meals and what is included

As at most Lakshadweep properties, meals are included. With almost no restaurants on the island, this is how eating works rather than an upsell. All three meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — are included in the rate. Expect fresh fish — tuna in particular — alongside rice, coconut and vegetables brought in by boat. If you are vegetarian, vegan or have an allergy, tell us when you book rather than on arrival, because supplies have to be planned ahead.

Where it is

Ocean Oasis Beach Home Agatti is at Near Lagoon Beach, Agatti. Agatti is where most Lakshadweep trips begin. It holds the archipelago’s only airport, so it is the one island you can fly to directly, and it has the widest choice of places to stay. The property is beachfront, so the water is directly in front of you rather than a walk away — on islands this small that is less about convenience than about how the days actually feel.

The lagoon runs along the western side of the island and is shallow enough to wade far out in calm weather. Snorkelling straight from the beach is possible in several places, and boat trips to Bangaram and Thinnakara are arranged locally — though every island you visit must be named on your entry permit.

Getting to Ocean Oasis Beach Home Agatti

Agatti Airport now takes direct flights from Kochi, Goa and Bangalore, so you can reach the island without the overnight mainland stopover that used to be unavoidable. The island is small enough that the transfer from the airstrip takes only a few minutes.

Lakshadweep requires an entry permit from every visitor, children and infants included. Much of what is written online about this is out of date — there is no longer any police clearance certificate, sponsorship or ticket requirement. An ID card and a photograph for each passenger is all that is asked. Permits are handled for guests booking through us.

Who this suits

At ₹7,200 a night this sits in the middle of the range for Agatti — comfortable without being a resort. With capacity for 12, it also works for larger groups and families travelling together. Children are well catered for, and the shallow lagoons make Lakshadweep an unusually easy destination for young families.

Good to know

• Alcohol is prohibited on the inhabited islands of Lakshadweep.
• Come between December and March for the weather, or in April and May if diving is the priority.
• Modest dress is expected once you leave the sand. It is noticed, and appreciated.
• Cash is important here: machines are few and unreliable, and card payment is not widely accepted.
• Use reef-safe sunscreen only. Oxybenzone and octinoxate harm the coral you have travelled to see.
