All rooms are air-conditioned, which matters most in April and May when the islands get genuinely hot; from December to February the sea breeze does much of the work on its own. Meals lean on tuna, coconut and rice, and the fish is genuinely fresh. Shell Resort by Praveg Atoll’s Lakshadweep, Bangaram is at Bangaram Island. Bangaram is a private, uninhabited island ringed by exceptional water. There is no settlement here, which is precisely the point. The property is beachfront, so the water is directly in front of you rather than a walk away — on islands this small that is less about convenience than about how the days actually feel.

Bangaram and neighbouring Thinnakara are also the two islands where foreign nationals may stay, on a special permit. Alcohol has historically been permitted on Bangaram, unlike the inhabited islands.

Getting to Shell Resort by Praveg Atoll’s Lakshadweep, Bangaram

Getting here means a flight into Agatti followed by a boat transfer across the lagoon system. Allow time on arrival day, as boats do not run after dark.

An entry permit is required for everyone travelling, including infants. It is far simpler than older guides suggest — the police clearance certificate and sponsorship requirements have both been dropped, and you no longer need tickets to apply. You need only an ID card and a photograph per passenger. We take care of the permit for guests who book a package with us.

Who this suits

At ₹30,000 a night this is one of the more premium options on Bangaram. The accommodation is cottage-style rather than hotel rooms, which suits couples and families who want a little separation from other guests. Children are well catered for, and the shallow lagoons make Lakshadweep an unusually easy destination for young families.
