Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 2 September 2026
This policy explains how cancellations, changes and refunds work for bookings made through lakshadweep-hotels.com. It should be read together with our Terms and Conditions and with the confirmation email for your booking.
The terms that apply to your booking
We work with independently owned hotels, resorts, homestays and guesthouses across Lakshadweep, and cancellation terms differ between them. The terms that apply to your reservation are the ones set out in your written booking confirmation. Where those terms differ from the general guidance below, your confirmation takes precedence.
If you are unsure what applies to your booking, email [email protected] with your booking reference and we will confirm it in writing before you decide.
How to cancel or change a booking
All cancellation and change requests must be made in writing to [email protected], quoting your booking reference and the names of the travellers affected.
A cancellation takes effect on the date we receive your written request, not the date you decide to cancel. Cancellations made by phone are not effective until confirmed by us in writing.
Requests to change dates, islands, property or party size are treated as a change rather than a cancellation where the property can accommodate them. Changes are subject to availability and to any difference in price. Where a property cannot accommodate a change, it is treated as a cancellation and re-booking.
What is generally non-refundable
Regardless of when you cancel, the following are normally not recoverable:
- Entry permit fees and any charges already paid to the Lakshadweep Administration.
- Flight and ship tickets, which are governed by the airline’s or the Administration’s own rules. Where you booked these yourself, you must claim directly from the operator.
- Any third-party service already delivered or already paid for on a non-refundable basis on your behalf, where we tell you so at the time.
If your entry permit is refused
Permits are issued at the sole discretion of the Lakshadweep Administration and we cannot guarantee approval.
If your permit application is refused for reasons outside your control and outside ours, we will cancel your accommodation and refund every amount we are able to recover from the property and other suppliers. We will show you what was recovered and what was not.
Where a permit is refused because the information or documents supplied were inaccurate, incomplete or submitted too late, the standard cancellation terms for your booking apply.
If travel is disrupted by weather or transport
Lakshadweep is served by a small number of flights and by passenger ship, and inter-island transfers run by boat in daylight only. Disruption is a normal feature of travel here rather than an exception.
- If your flight or ship is cancelled or delayed and you cannot reach the islands, tell us as soon as you know. We will approach the property on your behalf to seek a date change or a refund. Whether either is granted is the property’s decision, though in practice most will move dates where they have availability.
- If sea conditions prevent an inter-island transfer, the affected element may be rescheduled or refunded. Accommodation already occupied is not refundable.
- If an activity such as a dive, snorkelling trip or island excursion is cancelled for weather or safety, it will be rescheduled where possible within your stay, or refunded if it cannot be.
Additional costs arising from disruption – an extra hotel night on the mainland, a rebooked flight, missed onward connections – are not covered by us. This is precisely what travel insurance exists for, and we strongly recommend holding it.
The monsoon season
Between roughly June and September the southwest monsoon affects the islands. Passenger shipping is suspended for much of this period, flights are frequently disrupted, water activities do not operate and many properties close or run limited services.
We will advise you honestly if you ask to travel during this period. Bookings made for monsoon dates are accepted on the understanding that disruption is likely, and standard cancellation terms apply.
If we cancel your booking
We will only cancel a confirmed booking where it is genuinely necessary – for example if the property becomes unavailable or unsafe, or where an event beyond our reasonable control prevents the stay.
If this happens we will tell you as soon as possible and offer, at your choice, a comparable alternative property where one is available, or a full refund of everything you have paid to us for the affected element.
Events beyond anyone’s control
Where a stay cannot go ahead because of severe weather, suspension of shipping, closure of the airstrip, natural disaster, epidemic, civil unrest, or a change in government restrictions or permit rules, we will refund every amount we can recover from suppliers on your behalf. We cannot refund amounts that suppliers retain, and we do not charge our own cancellation fee in these circumstances.
No-shows and shortened stays
If you do not arrive and have not told us, the booking is normally treated as cancelled with no refund. If you leave earlier than booked, unused nights are not normally refundable, though we will always ask the property on your behalf.
How refunds are paid
Approved refunds are made to the original payment method and to the person who made the booking. Once processed, refunds typically take 7 to 14 working days to appear, depending on your bank or card issuer. We will confirm in writing when a refund has been issued.
Questions and complaints
If something goes wrong during your stay, raise it with the property immediately and contact us at the same time – most issues can be resolved on the spot, and it is much harder to help once you have returned home.
